22 Oct Networking To Thrive
Real, true networking establishes meaningful connections. These connections deliver value — more value than who follows you on Twitter, the number of “likes” you have on Facebook, or who you know on LinkedIn.
To network, you have to come out of your office and meet strangers in the real world. For some of us introverts, that can be one scary proposition. But networking IRL (in real life) can be rewarding. In fact, networking works best when both sides of the connection get and give value – in the form of information, contacts, advice and even emotional support. Sometimes, it’s lonely at the top.
Get to know the other people in town who are doing incredible things. Networking can introduce to an experienced mentor, a potential business partner, other startup “junkies” or someone who might want to buy your business. No matter what kind of connection you are looking for, it’s out there.
To get the most out of your networking, remember to do something valuable for the other party before you ask for something from them. Offer a referral to a business prospect, set up a business meeting for them with one of your trusted advisors or test-drive their new product.
In the meantime, firm up your ask and wait for the perfect opportunity to make it. You’ll be glad you did.
